What type of wood can I use in my wood stove?
To ensure the best performance from your SAEY wood stove, choosing the right fuel is essential. Always use dry, untreated wood with a moisture content of no more than 20%. Properly seasoned wood provides better combustion, more heat, less smoke and lower emissions.
Hardwoods such as oak, beech and ash are particularly suitable for wood stoves because they burn longer and provide excellent efficiency. Softer woods such as birch or poplar ignite more quickly and can be used to start the fire or for shorter heating periods.
Never burn treated, painted, glued or impregnated wood, such as waste wood or old furniture. These materials can release harmful substances, damage your appliance and lead to poor combustion. Wet wood should also be avoided, as it produces less heat and increases smoke and soot deposits in your appliance and flue.
By choosing the right wood and following good burning practices, you will get the best efficiency from your SAEY wood stove and enjoy a longer-lasting, cosy and efficient fire.
